Former sports journalist Danny Edwards creates a points-scoring system for MMA and scores 434 UFC and Bellator fights in 2013. This comprehensive magazine, published in March 2014, shows the results of that scoring.

From Dana White and beyond, almost everybody interested in MMA believes Ross Pearson (well, except for two judges) won the fight against Diego Sanchez on June 7. The p0ints system bears that out. Here's how it breaks down:

Diego Sanchez vs. Ross Pearson

First round: Pearson 17, Sanchez 14

Round scoring: Pearson 10, Sanchez 9

Second round: Pearson 25, Sanchez 21

Round scoring: Pearson 10, Sanchez 9

Third round: Pearson 23, Sanchez 13

Round scoring: Pearson 10, Sanchez 8

FINAL SCORE: PEARSON 65, SANCHEZ 48

ROUND SCORING: PEARSON 20, SANCHEZ 16

Cage time: 15:00 Judges' scoring: Pearson 30-27, Sanchez 30-27, Sanchez 29-28

The first round of Matt Brown vs. Erick Silva has been put in the top five by many UFC followers, but the points system can actually prove it. After scoring the fight, indeed, it could be determined that the total points of the two -- 141 -- was the most of any fight scored in 2013. Brown had 82 points to Silva's 59 and thus, outscored him in round scoring 20-17.

The points system can allow fans to break down the round, too. Silva actually led 51-7 three minutes into the fight after dropping Brown with a kick and dominating on the ground with submission tries. Incredibly, Brown scored 75 points in the final two minutes of the round after escaping and assaulting Silva with strikes and a takedown at the end of the round.

Everyone can talk about round one, but Brown's output in round two was the best in UFC history when it comes to fights scored using this system. Brown totaled an incredible 114 points in five minutes, and it was the way he did it that was so impressive. He scored points on punches, kicks, knees, elbows, takedowns, ground-and-pound, submission tries and probably a few more in there. Silva scored 20 points in the round.
